US Trade Deficit Surges to USD134.9B

(MENAFN) America’s goods trade gap swelled to $134.9 billion in September, the widest since March 2025, according to figures released Wednesday by the Commerce Department.

The 2.1% month-on-month jump blew past forecasts of a $130.4 billion shortfall and built on August’s $132.1 billion deficit.

Imports drove the widening. Goods purchases from abroad climbed $8.1 billion to $344.1 billion, outpacing a $5.3 billion rise in exports, which reached $209.2 billion.

Stockpiles also grew. Wholesale inventories advanced 0.6% from August to $1.01 trillion, while retail inventories ticked up 0.3% to $885.3 billion, the data showed.
