Sudanese Army Reports Advances in Blue Nile After Fighting
According to local authorities, army units and allied forces moved northeast of Kurmuk in the Keren Keren administrative area, taking control of positions in Balbung, Midel and Khor al-Hassan.
“The armed forces and allied forces made field advances northeast of Kurmuk locality in the Keren Keren administrative unit, covering the areas of Balbung, Midel and Khor al-Hassan,” the Kurmuk locality authorities said in a statement.
The authorities also said troops captured a number of military vehicles along with a weapons and ammunition storage facility during the operation.
The leadership of the army’s 4th Infantry Division welcomed the reported progress, commending the participating forces for what it described as their efforts and sacrifices.
The RSF had not immediately issued a statement commenting on the reported developments.
The latest fighting followed claims by Sudanese authorities on Sunday that they had prevented an RSF and SPLM-N assault on the Maqja and Mada areas in Blue Nile state.
A day earlier, the Sudanese army said its forces had carried out a “well-planned ambush” against RSF and SPLM-N fighters in the Maqra area. The army claimed the operation caused substantial losses and destroyed numerous military vehicles and pieces of equipment.
