Pakistan Prepares for Possible Second Round of US-Iran Talks in Islamabad
Officials said preliminary steps are already underway, with a strong focus on security planning.
“Preparations already started yesterday (Tuesday), particularly to ensure foolproof security arrangements,” the sources said.
On Tuesday, US President Donald Trump expressed optimism about the continuation of direct dialogue between Washington and Tehran, suggesting that discussions could resume in Pakistan within days. However, officials in Islamabad indicated that this timeline is unlikely to hold.
“Something could be happening over the next two days, and we're more inclined to go there,” Trump said, referring to the potential talks involving Iran and Pakistan as a host location.
Despite this, Pakistani sources said the next round is more realistically expected either by the end of this week or early next week.
They also noted that the same high-profile hotel used for the first round of discussions in Islamabad will again host the visiting delegations.
Pakistan had previously hosted senior US and Iranian representatives over the weekend, marking the most significant direct engagement between the two sides since 1979.
According to Pakistani officials, US Vice President JD Vance and Iranian parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf are expected to lead their respective delegations if the second round of talks proceeds as planned.
