Protester climbs Iranian embassy Balcony as hundreds rally in London

(MENAFN) A dramatic scene unfolded in west London as a protester climbed onto the balcony of the Iranian embassy during a large anti-government demonstration. Hundreds of people gathered outside the building, waving flags and chanting slogans against Tehran’s leadership.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed two arrests were made — one for aggravated trespass and assault on an emergency worker, and another for aggravated trespass. Officers are also seeking a third individual for trespassing. Authorities emphasized that the protest was being “safely policed” and reported no serious disorder, noting that additional officers had been deployed to prevent unrest.

Footage from the event showed a man tearing down the Iranian flag from the embassy balcony.

The embassy later posted an image online showing the flag restored.

The protests in London are part of a wider wave of demonstrations against the Iranian government that began on December 28 inside Iran, where human rights groups report at least 50 protesters have been killed. Similar rallies have taken place outside Iranian embassies worldwide.

In Kensington, some demonstrators held up images of Reza Pahlavi, the exiled son of Iran’s last shah, Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi, who was deposed during the 1979 revolution. Calls for Pahlavi’s return have grown louder among protesters inside Iran, reflecting frustration with the current regime.
