Pentagon Delegation Heads to Ukraine to Push Peace Talks Forward

(MENAFN) A senior Pentagon team has been dispatched to Ukraine by US President Donald Trump in a bid to revive stalled peace negotiations aimed at ending Russia’s invasion, according to media reports.

The delegation, led by Army Secretary Dan Driscoll and accompanied by two four-star army generals, is part of a renewed push to restart dialogue between Kyiv and Moscow, an official told media.

Officials said the team was set to meet on Wednesday with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, top government officials, military leaders, and defense-industry figures. Driscoll is also expected to hold discussions with Russian officials at a later date.

One senior administration official told media that Driscoll’s trip is intended to assess “facts on the ground” and provide a briefing to the White House upon his return.

“The president has been clear that it is time to stop the killing and make a deal to end the war,” the official said.

According to the report, the White House’s decision to send Driscoll, whose responsibilities primarily involve training and equipping US troops, signals both frustration over past unsuccessful efforts and a belief that Moscow may be more receptive to military-linked envoys.

The official told media that the idea to deploy Driscoll, who studied at Yale Law School alongside Vice President JD Vance, originated from a conversation between Trump and Vance.
