Train Collision in Chhattisgarh Claims Lives

(MENAFN) The number of fatalities from a train mishap in the central Indian region of Chhattisgarh has climbed to 11, authorities reported on Wednesday.

The incident occurred when a passenger train collided with a freight train in Bilaspur district on Tuesday, triggering an extensive relief and rescue operation in the vicinity.

A release from the Indian Railway confirmed that 11 people have died, while 20 others sustained injuries in the accident.

Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai declared that compensation would be provided to the relatives of the deceased as well as to those injured.

Officials also stated that a formal inquiry will be launched to determine the cause of the collision.
