MSF Appeals to RSF to Permit Civilians Evacuate Besieged El-Fasher
“We urgently call on the RSF and allied armed groups to spare civilians and let them flee El Fasher,” Michel Olivier Lacharite, MSF’s head of emergencies, said in a statement shared by the organization on the U.S. social media platform X.
Lacharite also pressed the international "quad" — the United States, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Egypt — to act swiftly, urging them "to stop the bloodbath," in the city.
The humanitarian group said it is monitoring developments closely and cautioned that the world “cannot look away” as El-Fasher’s humanitarian crisis intensifies.
Local and international organizations reported that on October 26, RSF fighters seized control of El-Fasher and carried out massacres against civilians. The offensive has fueled concerns that the assault could cement Sudan’s de facto partition along regional lines.
The conflict between the Sudanese army and the RSF, which erupted on April 15, 2023, has defied multiple regional and international mediation efforts. According to UN and local reports, the war has killed around 20,000 people and forced more than 15 million from their homes, either as refugees or internally displaced persons.
