Ruling Party Dominates Georgia's Local Elections
“At our election headquarters, data shows that Georgian Dream is leading in both mayoral and city council elections in every municipality, including Tbilisi and other major cities,” Kobakhidze stated during a press conference.
He expressed his gratitude to the electorate for their confidence in the ruling party and pledged that the administration would “justify this trust through hard work.”
Voters are casting ballots to elect mayors in key cities such as Tbilisi, Kutaisi, Batumi, Rustavi, and Poti. Additionally, they are choosing representatives for 59 municipalities and 64 city councils throughout the country.
A total of twelve political parties are in the race, with nine candidates vying for the position of Tbilisi mayor.
The ruling party has re-nominated the current officeholder, Kakha Kaladze.
Meanwhile, the primary opposition alliances – Strong Georgia – Lelo and Gakharia for Georgia – have endorsed former parliamentarian Irakli Kupradze.
Over 3.5 million eligible voters have been registered for this election cycle, with 3,061 polling locations set up across the country.
A majority of these polling stations are utilizing digital voting machines.
