Libyan Forces Dismantle Illegal Migration Boat Factory

(MENAFN) The Special Tasks Force of Libya’s Ministry of Interior, operating under the internationally recognized Government of National Unity, announced on Sunday the dismantling of a boat manufacturing site used for illegal migration in Dafniya, Misrata—roughly 200 kilometers east of Tripoli.

In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the force’s investigative unit detailed how it had surveilled the factory and secured a raid warrant from the Chief Prosecutor for Illegal Migration in western Misrata prior to the operation.

The raid led to the seizure of multiple boats ready for unlawful migration, alongside prohibited materials found inside the factory. Furthermore, 25 Bangladeshi nationals involved in the illicit migration activities were arrested.

All confiscated equipment and detainees have been handed over to the Public Prosecution to face legal proceedings.

Libya remains a critical transit hub for illegal migration from sub-Saharan Africa toward Europe. Traffickers continue to exploit the nation’s ongoing political and security turmoil to facilitate perilous sea crossings, often ending in deadly outcomes like drowning or exploitation.
