What does footage of Epstein prison footage reveal about his death?

(MENAFN) A missing minute in surveillance footage from outside Jeffrey Epstein’s jail cell has reignited speculation about the circumstances of his death, with critics pointing to the gap as potentially significant.

The footage, spanning approximately 11 hours, was recently released by the U.S. Department of Justice and the FBI, alongside a short memo. Recorded near Epstein’s cell in the Special Housing Unit of the Manhattan correctional facility where he died on August 10, 2019, the video reveals a sudden jump—from 11:58 p.m. on August 9 to 12:00 a.m. the next day—omitting a full minute of footage. The camera did not capture inside the cell but only a stairwell nearby.

Officially, Epstein died by suicide while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges. However, the mysterious nature of his death, combined with the influential figures linked to him, has long fueled theories that he may have been killed to protect powerful individuals.

The DOJ memo stated there was no evidence of blackmail or any “client list” tied to Epstein’s alleged sex trafficking network. It concluded that there was no need to investigate other unnamed individuals, contradicting earlier claims by former U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi, who had previously insisted such a list existed and accused earlier administrations of concealing evidence.

During a government session on Tuesday, Bondi addressed concerns over the missing video segment. She dismissed the gap as a routine technical occurrence, stating, “There was a minute that was off the counter, and what we learned from the Bureau of Prisons is every night they redo that video. So every night the video is reset, and every night should have the same minute missing.” She also appeared to soften her previous claims about the existence of a client list, clarifying that she had referred only to related files.

Nonetheless, the release of the footage has triggered sharp criticism from some public figures and media personalities. Former Trump adviser Steve Bannon condemned the handling of the investigation, saying, “we have to take these apparatuses down.” Commentator Tucker Carlson labeled the DOJ memo a “cover-up,” while podcast host Liz Wheeler and influencers Keith and Kevin Hodge have publicly called for Bondi’s removal from office.

Mike Cernovich, another well-known political commentator, warned President Trump that inaction over the Epstein case could negatively define his legacy. “No one is believing the Epstein coverup, President Trump. This will be part of your legacy. There’s still time to change it,” he wrote on X.
