Iran Targets U.S. Air Base in Qatar
(MENAFN) The U.S. Department of Defense confirmed on Monday that a significant military installation in Qatar was targeted by missile strikes launched from Iranian territory.
This development intensifies growing concerns about a broader conflict in the region, especially after recent American air assaults on multiple prominent nuclear locations over the weekend.
A Pentagon spokesperson stated, "I can confirm that al Udeid Air Base was attacked by short-range and medium-range ballistic missiles originating from Iran today."
The official added that, as of now, there are "no reports of U.S. casualties," and emphasized that the situation is under close observation, with additional details to be released once available.
Al Udeid Air Base, located in Qatar, is recognized as the most expansive U.S. military compound in the Middle East. The base functions as the regional command center for the United States Central Command, commonly known as CENTCOM, and plays a crucial strategic role in U.S. military operations in the area.
The missile barrage from Iran occurred shortly after the U.S. executed coordinated air raids targeting vital Iranian nuclear infrastructure early Sunday.
These operations were carried out under the directive of President Donald Trump.
In response to the American actions, Iran’s top military official, Maj. Gen. Abdolrahim Mousavi, declared on Monday that the attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities "will not go unanswered," signaling potential further conflict.
Meanwhile, President Trump issued a stern caution, asserting that any form of Iranian counterstrike "will be met with force far greater than what was witnessed" during the recent military campaign.
