Putin Says Israel is ‘Almost Russian-speaking Country’

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has emphasized the importance of Israel’s sizable Russian-speaking community as a crucial element shaping Moscow’s stance on the ongoing Middle East dispute.

He also pointed to Russia’s own significant Muslim population and its traditionally cordial ties with the Islamic world as key influences on the country’s diplomatic posture.

During his address at the main session of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) on Thursday, Putin stated that individuals who question Russia’s loyalty to its partners are simply “provocateurs” trying to incite division.

He stressed the intricacy of the Iran-Israel confrontation and warned against applying universal or simplistic expectations when it comes to international alliances.

“Every conflict is unique,” he remarked, emphasizing that Russia’s relationships throughout the Middle East are multifaceted and require a tailored approach.

Putin also pointed out that nearly 2 million people in Israel are Russian-speaking.

“It is almost a Russian-speaking country today. And, undoubtedly, we always take this into account in Russia’s contemporary history,” he declared, highlighting the demographic factor as a major consideration in Russia’s foreign policy decisions.
