Iran Declares Diplomacy “Irrelevant” After US Attack

(MENAFN) During a media briefing in Istanbul on Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi asserted that the United States had “crossed every red line” with its most recent assault on Iran’s nuclear infrastructure, cautioning that continued diplomatic engagement may now be unfeasible.

Describing the latest military actions as an “outrageous, grave, and unprecedented violation of fundamental principles of the Charter of the UN and international law,” Araghchi strongly criticized the US, characterizing the strikes as a flagrant breach of international norms.

Araghchi declared, “Iran condemns in the strongest terms the US brutal military aggression against Iran's peaceful nuclear facilities,” emphasizing the peaceful nature of the sites targeted and Iran's firm opposition to the attack.

The minister reiterated Iran’s resolve to protect its territorial integrity and national sovereignty, stating that the country would employ every available method in resisting not only “US military aggression,” but also “Israel's unlawful actions.”

Highlighting the futility of resuming talks, Araghchi maintained that any effort to revive diplomacy is now “irrelevant,” given that negotiations were underway when the assaults occurred. “We were in the middle of talks with the US when Israelis blow it up. And again, we were in the middle of talks, and negotiations with Europeans happened only two days ago in Geneva. This time, Americans decided to blow it up,” he said.

Expressing disappointment over international involvement, Araghchi added, “It's very unfortunate that Israel is doing -- as the German chancellor called -- a dirty job. ... They supported that dirty job, it's a shame,” suggesting collusion in what he called dishonorable acts.
Lastly, Araghchi questioned the effectiveness of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), stating that even Iran’s complete adherence offers no shield.

He posed a critical question: “Why countries pursuing peaceful nuclear energy should rely on the treaty?” implying a deep skepticism about its protective value.
